FOC Holds Regional Consultations to Support the Development of the 2022 Ottawa Agenda

As 2022 Chair of the Freedom Online Coalition (FOC) the Government of Canada hosted consultations with stakeholders in the Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America, North America, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Middle East and North Africa regions to support the development of the upcoming FOC Ottawa Agenda.

The regional consultations invited stakeholders from across the globe to discuss the challenges they are facing in relation to the protection and promotion of human rights in digital contexts. Representatives from civil society, academia, the media and the private sector took part in the consultations and provided specific regional and sub-regional insight into pressing challenges and opportunities associated with digital technologies and the Internet.

Findings from the regional consultations will feed into the new Ottawa Agenda, forming a set of recommendations to reflect the evolution of the Freedom Online Coalition’s vision and scope of work since its inception in 2011. The Ottawa Agenda will replace the original Tallinn Agenda, which outlined a set of recommendations for freedom online and was adopted during the 4th Freedom Online Conference in 2014

The Ottawa Agenda will forge a pathway forward for the promotion of Internet freedom in the coming decade and support FOC member states in working together towards a rules-based, democratic, and digitally inclusive world.
