On Monday, June 14 the United States Mission to the United Nations and the Permanent Mission of Finland to the United Nations hosted a launch event for the FOC New York Diplomatic Network focusing on the topic of ‘Internet Shutdowns’.
The event was moderated by AccessNow’s Peter Micek, and included the following panellists:
- Courtney Nemroff, Deputy U.S. Representative to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations
- Jukka Salovaara, Permanent Representative of Finland to the United Nations
- Rauno Merisaari, Ambassador for the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland
- Nathalie Jaarsma, Ambassador at-Large for Security Policy and Cyber, the Kingdom of the Netherlands
- Damar Juniarto, Executive Director at SAFEnet
This event announced the United States and Finland’s leadership on Internet freedom in New York, and provided an expert panel to raise diplomatic awareness of the issue of Internet shutdowns.
