The Freedom Online Coalition’s Taskforce on AI and Human Rights (T-FAIR) will be hosting open consultations at RightsCon with civil society to inform the drafting process of an FOC Joint Statement on AI and Human Rights. T-FAIR members have identified facial recognition technology and automated content moderation as priority areas for the Joint Statement, set to launch in November 2020, as these AI technologies pose a disproportionate risk to human rights.
The RightsCon Community Lab session will be held on Wednesday 29 July from 3:15-4:15 pm UTC. Civil society members will be encouraged to reflect on and further refine the human rights implications of facial recognition technology and automated content moderation. This input will feed into the Joint Statement and its call to action for countries worldwide to promote rights-respecting AI technologies and reverse the global trend of rising digital authoritarianism.
