Background paper – Protecting and supporting Cyber Activities

The Internet has become a key channel for activist and bloggers to seek and impart information, and to organized and share their views. To limit the power of the Internet in supporting key rights, authoritarian regimes have turned to censorship to stem the free flow of information. This paper gives an overview of different initiatives from Governments, civil society, the private sector and academics, aiming to support and strengthen the efforts of cyber activists.
