Diplomatic Coordination
Our work
Freedom Online Coalition (FOC) Members develop strategic approaches and joint positions to shape global norms and address trends, opportunities, and challenges to human rights in relation to the Internet and digital technologies.
The Coalition offers its Members a unique informal diplomatic space to share information and concerns about current trends affecting Internet freedom, and developments related to digital technologies and their effects on human rights and fundamental freedoms. The FOC facilitates coordination ahead of relevant forums, processes and negotiations to advance an open, free and secure Internet, and promote human rights online and offline.
The FOC’s diplomatic networks are an integral element of the Coalition’s structure, offering Members the opportunity to facilitate coordination in relevant local and/or regional forums and processes in order to advance the FOC’s goals and values, and in cases where a local response has been deemed more appropriate. Active in Geneva, Paris, New York, and Vienna, but with engagement extending to other local missions and embassies, the networks leverage joint positions and strategies coordinated on capital level to support advocacy efforts through interventions input during relevant negotiations.
