FOC Working Group 1 (WG1) – “An Internet Free and Secure” – is looking for new members to join its efforts to promote an informed debate on the relationship between governance, security, and fundamental rights and freedoms online. The working group (WG) “An Internet Free and Secure” seeks to foster rights-respecting approaches to cybersecurity through multistakeholder dialogue and substantive inputs into existing cybersecurity policies and processes.
In the past year, WG1 has created a user-based definition of cybersecurity, conducted a mapping exercise to identify main global spaces where cybersecurity is being discussed, conducted ongoing work on a set of recommendations that promote greater stakeholder-driven and human rights respecting approaches to cybersecurity, and developed a blog-series exploring spaces where cybersecurity is being discussed and avenues for engagement.
WG1 will build on this work under its new mandate from January 2016 up till the FO 2016 Conference in autumn. The group will focus on 1) advancing the normative debate on cybersecurity and generating support for the recommendations, and on 2) mapping global spaces where cybersecurity is being discussed in 2016.
We are looking for new participants to join existing members who have renewed their membership. The Working Groups Terms of Reference can be found here.
To submit an expression of interest, please send a short motivation letter outlining how your experience and expertise could contribute to the Group’s work and outcomes to info@freedomonlinecoalition.com with a subject line “FOC – WG1 expression of interest_name surname”. The deadline for submissions is COB on Sunday 21 February.
Expressions of interest will be evaluated by WG Co-chairs and the FOC Support Unit, based on the following criteria:
∙ Quality of submission
∙ Relevance of experience and expertise
∙ Regional, gender, and stakeholder balance
