WG3 Blog Series: The Case for Transparency

In this installment of its blog series, Working Group 3 makes the case for transparency: explaining why information about how governments and companies act and interact—particularly around requests for user information or content restriction—is critical to helping individuals realize their human rights.

The working group outlines the goals transparency serves for society as well as its specific value for governments and for companies.

The Working Group has heard from groups around the world that clearly articulating why transparency matters would be helpful for advocates pushing governments and companies to be more transparent. This post attempts to serve that need, providing arguments based on the Working Group’s interviews with company and government representatives as well as on the work of individual group members.
