FOC Open Forum at RightsCon 2018
Freedom Online Coalition (FOC) representatives and members of the FOC Advisory Network (AN) gathered in Toronto on the margins of the 7th RightsCon Conference. Keeping with tradition, the FOC held an interactive session open to all RightsCon participants on Day 1 of the conference. During the session, the FOC formally launched its Joint Statement on Internet Censorship, gave an update on the activities of the FOC and the priorities of the German chairmanship. The panel included: Ambassador Thomas Fitschen (Federal Foreign Office of Germany), Scott Busby (U.S. Department of State), and Katharine Kendrick (co-Chair of the Advisory Network).
Ambassador Fitschen, speaking for Germany, highlighted the importance of civil society and multistakeholder engagement in the work of the FOC. Ambassador Fitschen additionally emphasised the Coalition’s commitment to upholding human rights and Internet Freedom in the face of increasing threats to human rights in the digital environment.
